Monique Friesen and Ilse van der Woude
We are Monique Friesen (1999) and Ilse van der Woude (1996). We are researchers, image makers, speakers and concept developers.
We met at the Bachelor of Crossmedia Design at AKI ArtEZ. During various collaborations we found each other through our curiosity about the world. From 2018 we decided to work together as an artist duo. Collaborating as a duo gives us the opportunity to bring our individual ideas together into a whole. We challenge each other to search for answers through a constant interaction between our thoughts.
To broaden our horizons, we moved to South Korea in 2020. There we had the unique opportunity to study Fine Art for a year at Korea National University of Arts in Seoul. During our stay in South Korea, we were fortunate to learn from both traditional and modern art. We had the chance to work with several unique artists and institutions.
Through our work, we want to question, innovate and connect. We believe it is important to remain curious. In order to take part in the constantly changing world around us.
